[opensuse] anyone using cromfs?
I'm using 1.5.10 and trying to create a filesystem (mkcromfs) based on about 29Gb on uncompressed data. I keep hitting an exception - "terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc' " - I've got plenty of disk-space and despite the error message, it's not a memory problem either. I've tried the same procedure on three different machines, 2Gb, 6Gb and 7Gb memory respectively. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (9.9°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I guess noone is really using cromfs - well, I managed to get it working in the end. I was running on a 32bit system and hitting the 3Gb per address-space limitation. Altering the blocksize made it work. The mkcromfs ran for about 5 days and created a 1.2Gib filesystem out of apprx 30Gib logfiles. That's a 4.3% compression ratio. For archiving, this is perfect! -- Per Jessen, Zürich (5.8°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
