I ran dhcpcd-test eth0 and it yielded addresses none of which matched the dns addresses I entered manually. Is there something odd with the hardware? With the dhcp software/

Dhcpcd is still a somewhat buggy piece of client side software, according to my linux server guru. I have had similar problems, so whenever I can't hook up to the internet, I just make sure and track down DNS servers and manually enter them, as you did. It might be worth tracking down the folks who maintain dhcpcd and emailing them about your experiences. Andy Prough Austin, Texas
