installing 2.2 kernel on SuSE8.X, not working

I compiled a 2.2.19 kernel with ext3 patch. It starts the kernel, mounts the ext3 root partition successfully and then gives me an error during INIT: FATAL: kernel too old The reason for all of this is that there are drivers for CAN pcmcia cards that work only in 2.2. Thanks Nathan

during INIT: FATAL: kernel too old
You can't run kernel 2.2 on SuSE Linux 8.2. The glibc is built for 2.4 so user space programs will not run on an older kernel. You would have to use an older version of SuSE to be able to run 2.2. Philipp -- Philipp Thomas work: pthomas@suse.de SuSE Linux AG private: philipp.thomas@t-link.de
