Hi all, Once again I am asking for experiences and advises when buying my new hardware. This time I am going to buy a new laptop. I really like an Asus L2420D. Its chipset is a SiS 730S, and it is not mentioned on www.linux-laptop.net. Maybe I will end to try by myself (if I am fast I can send it back without paying), but I just want to know if someone have something to say about this. Praise
Have never used an ASUS laptop, but prefer their Motherboards over anything.
Sorry I cannot advise on the Laptop, in fact i am a bit biased because I
prefer Apple Laptops for the battery life and speed over the Intel's
(Running SuSE PPC of course).
Regards,
Jon

I have had good experiences with both Dell and Toshiba laptops. Never tried Asus. Best Regards, Keith -- LPIC-2, MCSE, N+ wielder of vi(m), an ancient, dangerous and powerful magic Don't get lost, show no fear, and you'll be ready for a new frontier -- d.w.

I have a compaq 12XL430 running 7.1 and it works very well. The only difficulty I've experienced is that I cannot boot directly into 1024 x 768 video mode. I have to boot to the command line and then run startx to use that one mode although I can boot directly into any lessor video mode. Sound, video, pcmcia, it all works. Its a dual boot laptop with me having been pre installed when i bout it about 15 months ago. the only thing i don't like is the battery life but i guess 3 hours on a charge isn't terrible even though it was quoted at 4; however, its only three under 7.1; me gives about 2.5. dave
I don't know about the Asus thingy, but I have a Toshiba Satellite 3000 ( S353 ) and it's a beauty. For about US$1800 it has a GeForce2Go 16MB card which works wonderfully with the latest nVidia drivers, the winmodem DOES work under Linux, so does the MII compliant NIC. The USB smartmedia card works as a charm too. Three extra USBs and a firewire to go adds up to great. The only "incompatibility" found is that I can't swap the CD-ROM and the floppy while it's running Linux, bt then I havn't used floppies for months now... ;) Hope this helps -tosi On Lau, 2002-03-02 at 21:19, Praise wrote:
