Hi all, I have several SUSE 9.1 Mail servers running. I use postfix+courier with Maildir. If fam-server isn't running, the following fills up my mail log pretty quickly: Oct 18 17:16:45 eos imapd: Failed to create cache file: maildirwatch (hansdp) Oct 18 17:16:45 eos imapd: Error: Input/output error Oct 18 17:16:45 eos imapd: Check for proper operation and configuration Oct 18 17:16:45 eos imapd: of the File Access Monitor daemon (famd). Starting /etc/init.d/fam gets rid of this, but fam, from time to time, maxes out CPU and disc, which is very annoying and slows down imap and samba for everyone who uses the server. I usually have to kill or restart fam to stop this. I have not seen this behaviour in Debian or Red Hat. In fact, this is the only time that I've seen courier wanting to talk to fam at all. I have tried to set fam not to do anything (through sysconfig and the config files), to no avail. I haven't found any setting that lets courier ignore fam. How do I get rid of this behaviour? Well, I just built Courier a day or two ago, and there's an option to enable/disable fam at compile time. You might want to just grab the source RPM, install it, edit the spec file, and then do an "rpm -bb" (or ba, if you want a source package) on that spec file... I dunno if there's an easier solution. This is what I'd do, though. --Danny, who also just restored his inbox (while cursing POS Thunderbird)
