Last Stupid question of the day...re java link
When I run java -version I get 1.1.8. But I installed java2-1.3.1. How do I link to the newer version? Tom -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems 805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com
Haven't yet had time to resolve the printer-via-network problem but a display has become bad enouigh to become a higher priority. When using about any x-windows app the screen does not paint properly. In SO 5.2 I get multiple copies of the toolbar, one stacked upon another, in Konq. there are patches of the screen, esp. lower right, with multiple bars across them. If I minimize and run Restore Desktop things clear up temporarily but reappear. There are some dim artifacts on the screen when KDE 3.0 first opens but nothing like those that appear when an app opens. I have run YaST update as recently as last evening, so I should have the latest and greatest of anything on the automatic update list. Thoughts, please? Thanks! doc

SetDefaultJava [--devel] version where --devel is used to set the version to the version of the JDK version is used as:SunJava1 SunJava2 IBMJava2, Java2, or default You (actually root) receives an email about this -- Togan Muftuoglu Unofficial SuSE FAQ Maintainer http://dinamizm.ath.cx
This doesn't work, if you install the JSDK1.3 from Sun.

You will find a link called /usr/lib/java that will point to /usr/lib/jdk1.1.8 You must (as root) remove this link and create a new one still called /usr/lib/java but this time pointing to your 1.3.1 sdk. In your PATH variable you will find ...:/usr/lib/java/bin:... so the link must point to the directory level which has the "bin" directory. One last point, in 7.3 there was a setting in the SuSE configuration script that called for the linking of the java runtime, this must be set to no so that all your hard work will not be over-written when next you make a change with yast.
