Hi, what is the best graphical manager to install RPMs? I'm using kpackage and I don't know how to download packages with this program that are required due to an installation of another package. Some people said APT would be pretty good, but is this the best? Regards, Phoenix

It's not graphical. -- Mads Martin Jørgensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort?" -- A. P. J.

rpm is not graphical but for rpm and apt4rpm there are graphical interfaces available apt4rpm -> synaptic rpm -> e.g. kpackage btw: can anyone tell me or apt4rpm will be included in Suse 8.1 ? -- regards, Frederik Vos www.vosberg.be

I seriously doubt it, SuSE's package management system revolves around YaST/YOU, the likelihood of them including an alternative is practically zero I would think. In the same way it's seriously unlikely that Fou4S will be included, even though it's a great tool and some SuSE staff themselves use it. -- James Ogley, Unix Systems Administrator, Pinnacle Insurance Plc james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk www.pinnacle.co.uk +44 (0) 20 8731 3619 Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.0) Updated GNOME RPMs for SuSE Linux: www.usr-local-bin.org ********************************************************************** CONFIDENTIALITY.This e-mail and any attachments are confidential and may also be privileged. It's also a resource issue. We can't ship anything without support it properly. -- Mads Martin Jørgensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort?" -- A. P. J.

Were do you expect resource constraints, in the people, systems, time, money? Probably all, but then how or how much would be the constaint? At this moment YOU is being maintained and developed by SuSE alone -> consuming resources too. Perhaps SuSE can start including the projects in the distribution, just like any other of 3000 rpm packages? -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Fortenately not, so now it can be run during boot or from the cron. Very nice if one needs to maintain many machines :)

Eventually kpackage may support apt-rpm too, it already supports Debian APT. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless
