[opensuse] Xorg and Kernel repos
At the end of http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Bugreport_X it tells how to test the latest X11. In addition to specifying the latest X in: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_XX.X/ it suggests using the latest kernel in: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/HEAD/openSUSE_XX.X/ In my setup, I have only been using the X repo to get new X versions. Even though these are happy to install with the kernel I have, could this be a cause of some issues I am seeing with nvidia? Does everyone else who uses the X repo above also use the Kernel repo above? In my case, XX.X is 11.2. Hi Roger, What happens if you install only packages from the 'customarily supported' or 'intentionally-packaged-for' 11.2 repositories? If you install packages from outside that arena, how likely is it that you'll find people here with specific knowledge of your unique combination of packages? FWIW, I've found over the years that it is much, much easier to stick to packages (and, by extension, repositories) that are explicitly stated to be 'ready for prime time' for my distribution. Just my 2 cents, YMMV, etc & regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

FWIW: i have been using the combo of repos X11 & Kernel:/HEAD for a long time on 11.3, after i found that Xorg was using much to much CPU resources otherwise (up to 50%). after switching to oS factory and then 11.4, i was using the standard repos at first, but Xorg came up to 20+% again. at first i switched only to X11, which didn't help much, then i added the Kernel:/stable repo, because HEAD was having some difficulties att the time (not long ago), according to the factory mailing list i think. i find that the combination of X11 & Kernel:/stable works as well as X11 & Kernel:/HEAD used to on 11.3. these are all subjective impressions, of course, using plasma widgets & htop, no serious performance checking. still, the impression is strong that there's much better performance using X11 & better-than-standard kernel. eventually i'm planning to switch to Kernel:/HEAD again. while using it on 11.3, for several months, i didn't experience one crash due to kernel or X11 repos. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
