For getting the box to answer the phone and allow a login, edit your /etc/inittab file. Near the bottom of the page is a line commented out like this: # modem getty. # mo:23:respawn:/usr/sbin/mgetty -s 38400 modem if you uncomment the "mo:23:respawn....." line, your computer will answer the phone and allow the user to login normally. There are also lines pertaining to fax and voice, but I have not yet played with those. I have used the modem getty and dialed into my box from Delrina WinComm Pro 7.0 on win95, hyperterminal from win95 and minicom and seyon on linux --- all work perfectly. mc Carsten Hoeger wrote:

There was a thread on the mailing list awhile ago regarding dialing into a SuSE system but I had some slight problems and seem to have lost the physical articles that I had archived. Can someone point me to a faq or howto about dialing in? Primarily, I would dial in with a modem to my linux box here at the house, get files I need to work on, etc.I do not need any internet connectivity; only a dialin much like what I used to do with NT.
