I'm trying to install 8.2, the installation proceeeds fine and then just sits there at: Detecting USB devices..... The two USB ports have: Port 1 : USB Hub Port 2: Empty On the USB hub I have: Palm PDA, Compact Flash Card Reader, Joystick After the stall at the above mentioned point, I disconnected the USB hub and restarted the machine and install... again the same problem, it hangs at Detecting USB devices.... Has anyone run into this? Is there a work around/fix? thanks, Ahbaid.
Dear Ahbaid , Yes I have seen some flakyness with how .2 deals with USB. I have had some success by disabling the USB in the motherboard bios settings. Let us know how things go for you. ................ PeterB On Tuesday 22 April 2003 07:58 pm, Ahbaid Gaffoor wrote:

Thanks Peter, I wish this wasn't the case :( I will be dual booting this box between XP and SuSE 8.2, I really needed those USB devices operational.... This way I wouldn't have them under SuSE and whenever I rebooted I would need to mess with the BIOS... thanks, I'll see if I can find some other way around this. Ahbaid. Peter B Van Campen wrote:

Try disabling acpi. USB devices on my machine were only recognised after disabling acip. LW999
Dear Abaid, Sorry I didn't explain more thouroghly; Disable the USB in BIOS only till the install completes; my suspicion is that the install scripts get confused, not the working system. ................ PeterB On Tuesday 22 April 2003 11:27 pm, you wrote:

Thanks Peter, actually I followed another response and user "acpi=off" at boot and that did the trick... now I have to figure out how to use my PDA under Linux :) How do I address it etc? thanks all Ahbaid. Peter B Van Campen wrote:
