[opensuse] Firefox
Until this morning I ran "Firefox 68.6.1esr (64-bit)" on openSuSE Leap 15.1. After a software update yesterday night performed by typing "zypper patch", all tabs appeared with this text: Gah. Your tab just crashed. We can help! ... (complete text at http://ariannuccia.de/images.tmp/tab_crashed.pdf) It did not help opening a new tab or trying a different URL. Whatever I tried to open, always the same nonsense described above appeared. So, I downloaded firefox-74.0.1.tar.bz2 to /opt, installed it by typing "tar xjvf firefox-74.0.1.tar.bz2" and replaced /usr/bin/firefox by a symbolic link to /opt/firefox/firefox. This was very simple and has the advantage that I can now run "Firefox 74.0.1 (64-bit)" instead of the prehistoric version 68.6.1esr supplied by openSuSE. Hi Wolfgang, if you did update Firefox while running it? If so this might have been the reason. Did you restart the browser completely and retry? Firefox 68.6.1esr (64-bit) running fine here on openSUSE Leap 15.1 Best wishes Holger On 07.04.20 15:41, Wolfgang Mueller wrote:

Firefox 68.6.1esr is not a dinosaur. Firefox 24.8.1 pre quantum, pre australis more likely is. Or some 3.x version from the era when version numbering had sense. But the best one is legacy opera 12.15. (: Cheers, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You installed a new version of firefox, while you had the old one running. This almost never works right. I'm using Tumbleweed, and because of such issues, not only with firefox, I update my system like this: - sudo zypper dup --download-only (if you're using Leap you can use "up" instead of "dup") - log out when you're fine with it - ctrl+alt+F1 - login as root - zypper --no-refresh dup - reboot

I have three computers. Only on one of them Firefox was running during updating. But the error is equal on all three of them.

Is it really necessary to run updating on a black screen? Whatsoever, in the case of Firefox 68.6.1esr (64-bit), it was not worth while running an update for keeping this old version alive. With Firefox 74.0.1 (64-bit) I am much better off. Do you have the testupdates repo for 15.1 enabled? Somehow the SLE15 imported mozilla-nss caused issues in openqa too. Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
