[opensuse] OpenSUSE 13.1 Desktop Folder View
Hi All, I have finally upgraded to 13.1 with few issues. I have my desktop set as folder view, but when I reboot my system the files from my desktop are not shown! Just a space where my files should be. I change back to the default desktop then back to folder view and they appear again! There is no other way to describe this as incredibly annoying! :/ Any clues? I don't have any help but can tell you that you are not the only one having this issue. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I recall this issue right back at the start of the KDE4 series, but I thought it had been fixed soon after, since I've had no problems setting various folders, not just the default Desktop, and they've stuck. Right-click on a blank area of this folder view and click Folder Settings. Double-check all the options in there, and make sure the Filters aren't set to hide all files named *. Try changing a few options, click OK, then go back and put the options how you want them. See if they stick after that. I guess that is good as the problem is consistent :) -- Paul Groves -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Ok here's the weird thing. This issue resolved itself yesterday and my folder view desktop started showing up fine. I have installed the nVidia driver update that came out yesterday and now the issue is back! Reverting to the old driver does not fix this. This is very annoying. Does anyone have any clue what could be causing this? -- Paul Groves -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Paul, Is the 'folder view desktop' you've described the oS 12.3 KDE4 default 'folder view widget' or something else/new? Thx! Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Carl I am using 13.1 64-bit with the latest kde4 in the suse repository.
I have used the folder view layout setting so that my files appear on the desktop instead of the widget. -- Paul Groves -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for the clarification. For the record, the default 13.1 installs KDE 4.11, "a long term release" <http://en.opensuse.org/Features#Free_Desktops>) I recently updated to KDE 4.11.5 and the desktop folder view seems to be working here. A bit of online searching reveals, however, that the behavior you're seeing isn't necessarily new, nor is it unique to openSUSE. I'd recommend first creating a test user account. It will have it's own 'fresh' user space. If the problem manifests there, then it's something deeper in the system. If not, something in your user space is borked. I'd also recommend some online searches for 'kde 4 desktop folder view' and similar. I definitely pulled up some interesting links to look at that way. hth & regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
