Finally, they switched it from Wicked to Network Manager and started networkmanager service as root, then configured the connection in there under KDE (from the systray). It says it's connected but there's still no connectivity in any application. However, they can now reach the router interface at 192.168.1.254.
AH! Well, that's important. It means that basic networking is on.
It seems that there's some overriding misconfiguration somewhere with the routing, but I'm lost and don't know what to try next. The ISP are still a suspect from my point of view but as far as they're concerned everything's set, and the phone line is working.
Any suggestions?
Try to ping google by IP number, not name. If that is not working, it is either routing, or a problem in the router itself.
If it works, then I would suspect name solving in the computer.
Can they take photos and send them, from a mobile phone?
Thanks for the tip. We've all conceded for the day and retired for the night after 3 hours of phone calls so I'll get them to try pinging tomorrow. Alas, their mobiles are these ones with giant buttons and no cameras so no chance of them sending me any visual aid.

-----Ursprüngliche Nachricht Ende----- Since your router on a private IPv4 address does work, did you check that the network interface was not configured wrongly in the firewall? For troubleshooting you could ask to stop the firewall just to see if that makes a difference. Just my 2 cents.

I may be wrong but I don't believe the firewall settings should have any effect in this instance. The old router was also not working prior to swapping over. I got them to edit the existing connection rather than create a new one - the eth0 interface should remain the same from the firewall's point of view, regardless of what router or other device the connection is then passing through. The eth0 interface is itself configured in the External Zone. Still, disabling the firewall is always a part of the process of elimination, will have to add that to Sunday's list of tasks. gumb -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
