The "business" could also be a department in a larger business, but I'm assuming that the "business" has 25 people or less, will have 1 central server that will be running SQL Server 2000 for their database, that there are 24 "sales/marketing people and/or project managers" and 1 "developer"...
Ok, So here we do the final addition: $3,549.00 $4,800.00 $6,529.95 $279.95x25=$6998.75 $549.95x25=$13748.75 $1029.00 ---------------------------------------- For a grand total of: $36,655.45 ... Or you can get SuSE's 7.1/7.2 Professional distribution, which comes with $40,000 worth of software, for the low low price of just $70.00.
Shouldn't that be 25 * $70? I know SuSE said it was perfectly ok for me to intall my single copy on each of my home machines (2 at present), but I'd assume in a business environment, you'd want to pay for each seat. Your basic economic argument still holds... :) Jim

Someone correct me if I am wrong.......but my understanding is...don't copy the disks, but install on as many machines as I could want? Regards Brian -- Brian Galbraith [ Mutt 1.3.18i]| GnuPG 1.0.6 | SuSE Linux 7.1-2.4.4 ] Preferred Key 0x8232434C http://website.lineone.net/~bgalbraith/pgpkey.html

1. You are correct. It is as legal as can be to make multiple installs of your SuSE software. IBM could buy one box and install it on every computer in the corporation ( talk about savings ;-). 2. In fact, it is even legal to make copies of the set for your own use ( here goes the ISO thing again...) and IIRC it is PERFECTLY LEGAL to make copies of the set and distribute them to your friends, and even sell them -- right? Someone (Ben? ) correct me if I'm wrong about the second part. I already know I'm right about the first part :-) ---------------------------------------------------- Jonathan Wilson System Administrator Cedar Creek Software http://www.cedarcreeksoftware.com Central Texas IT http://www.centraltexasit.com

The license can be found here: /usr/share/doc/packages/yast/COPYRIGHT.english And the one you guys are discussing is section 3: 3. Distribution of the YaST programme, its sources, whether amended or unamended in full or in part thereof, and the works derived thereof for a charge require the prior written consent of SuSE GmbH. But you can give them away. That's why it's so stupid of linux.iso.org to refuse SuSE ISOs - they aren't charging for the download, so there's no reason they can't have ISOs to download.

I would think in view of the huge savings in your example, the least you could do is buy 25 copies from SuSE. *************************************************** Powered by SuSE Linux 7.1 Professional KDE 2.0.1 KMail 1.1.99 Bryan S.
