Hello. I've become interested in Linux just recently, so I have a couple of questions. First, what is the difference between KDE and Gnome? I've heard people claim one is better than the other, but ultimately they do the same thing, right? _________________________________________________________________ Share your photos without swamping your Inbox. KDE does window management one way, Gnome another. Try them out, and any other window managers that catch your attention, and go with the one that feels right to you. That's the beauty of Linux ;-) you get to choose. I would suggest you choose for yourself which is best for you. Essentially, KDE and Gnome could be considered the big players in the Linux Window management world. Install both so that if you use an application that's designed for KDE you can run it in Gnome and vice versa. Clayton

Yes :-) SuSE seems to be biased towards kde, so I thinks it is more complete and full of gadgets. Other distros are biased towards gnome. Both are very good, and memory hungry; I find kde the heavier one, specially in machines which are scarce in memory and/or cpu. There are more than those two, of course. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

They're like different religions.

Yes, that has caused many a war.

A wise statement. The choice between KDE and Gnome is a matter of personal preference. No one can tell you what is "better" and what you should use. If you have a look at both of them, as well as the other window managers, eventually you'll probably find one of them to be "yours". S.H.
