Yes, it is, and the mouse is getting flaky as hell. I have checked all libusb files and they are all from OSS/OSS-update so they should be fine. Is there a kernel parameter or something like that that could be different from 42.3 to 15.0? Every few minutes the mouse dies. Most times it reconnects, but sometimes (like now) I have to unplug-replug it then it works for a while and disconnects, e.g. Nov 20 12:07:12 wizard mtp-probe[10533]: bus: 2, device: 75 was not an MTP device Nov 20 12:07:30 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: USB disconnect, device number 75 Nov 20 12:07:30 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: new low-speed USB device number 76 using xhci_hcd Nov 20 12:07:30 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: New USB device found, idVendor=045e, idProduct=0040 Nov 20 12:07:30 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=3, SerialNumber=0 Nov 20 12:07:30 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: Product: Microsoft 3-Button Mouse with IntelliEye(TM) Nov 20 12:07:30 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: Manufacturer: Microsoft Nov 20 12:07:30 wizard kernel: input: Microsoft Microsoft 3-Button Mouse with IntelliEye(TM) as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1c.7/0000:26:00.0/usb2/2-2/2-2:1.0/0003:045E:0040.0036/input/input79 Nov 20 12:07:30 wizard kernel: hid-generic 0003:045E:0040.0036: input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.10 Mouse [Microsoft Microsoft 3-Button Mouse with IntelliEye(TM)] on usb-0000:26:00.0-2/input0 Nov 20 12:07:30 wizard mtp-probe[10562]: checking bus 2, device 76: "/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1c.7/0000:26:00.0/usb2/2-2" Nov 20 12:07:30 wizard mtp-probe[10562]: bus: 2, device: 76 was not an MTP device Nov 20 12:07:59 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: USB disconnect, device number 76 Nov 20 12:07:59 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: new low-speed USB device number 77 using xhci_hcd Nov 20 12:07:59 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 Nov 20 12:08:00 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 Nov 20 12:08:00 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: new low-speed USB device number 78 using xhci_hcd Nov 20 12:08:00 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 Nov 20 12:08:00 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: New USB device found, idVendor=045e, idProduct=0040 Nov 20 12:08:00 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=3, SerialNumber=0 Nov 20 12:08:00 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: Product: Microsoft 3-Button Mouse with IntelliEye(TM) Nov 20 12:08:00 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: Manufacturer: Microsoft Nov 20 12:08:00 wizard kernel: input: Microsoft Microsoft 3-Button Mouse with IntelliEye(TM) as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1c.7/0000:26:00.0/usb2/2-2/2-2:1.0/0003:045E:0040.0037/input/input80 Nov 20 12:08:00 wizard kernel: hid-generic 0003:045E:0040.0037: input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.10 Mouse [Microsoft Microsoft 3-Button Mouse with IntelliEye(TM)] on usb-0000:26:00.0-2/input0 Nov 20 12:08:00 wizard mtp-probe[10593]: checking bus 2, device 78: "/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1c.7/0000:26:00.0/usb2/2-2" Nov 20 12:08:00 wizard mtp-probe[10593]: bus: 2, device: 78 was not an MTP device Nov 20 12:08:05 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: USB disconnect, device number 78 Nov 20 12:08:06 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: new low-speed USB device number 79 using xhci_hcd Nov 20 12:08:06 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71 Nov 20 12:08:06 wizard kernel: usb 2-2: Device not responding to setup address. Is this a 15.0-only PC, no chance to see if it happens in 42.3? It could be coincidence that it only started with 15.0, and the problem is in hardware, the particular USB port(s) used, or a flaky old power supply or VR resulting in unstable or low voltage on USB bus. Can you try a powered USB hub? Different rodent? -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science. Team OS/2 ** Reg. Linux User #211409 ** a11y rocks! Yes, This is a 15.0 only PC. After 20 months with never a single disconnect of 42.3 and the 4.4 kernel, after zypper dup to 15.0 and the 4.12 kernel the mouse flips on/off at the drop of a hat. I think there is something that has changed in between 4.4 and 4.12 to make usb "smarter" that is really having a problem with the old MS 3-button mouse. I have a handful of these things, so I just grabbed another one and plugged it in and plugged the old one into a PI 2B+. So far neither have had any problems. I wonder if it is just a change in sensing level on some part of the usb connection that tries to power-down the usb device if it doesn't know its a mouse (which obviously this is). Something changed, but I don't have a clue on what to test. Never an issue until the dup. We will see how long mouse 2 can go.... -- David C.
