[SLE] How to compile a series of jpg files to a pdf booklet?
I have a series of jpg files and would like them to compile to a multipage pdf booklet. Which program can I use for that? I use SuSE 10.1. bye Ronald -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

You could try inserting the JPG files into an OpenOffice document and then creating a PDF. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Import them into an OpenOffice document and then export the finished product as .pdf, perhaps. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

it will work somehow with imageMagick wich is really magic :-) as an example: to make a single page montage you could enter: composite -geometry +20+50 image.jpg background.png output.pdf where the two numbers are x-Position (horizontal) and y-Position (vertical) of the upper left corner of "image.jpg"'s position on "background.png". If you google a bit, I guess you'll find out how to make multi-page pdf's. imageMagick homepage: http://www.imagemagick.org/ very good tutorials: http://www.cit.gu.edu.au/~anthony/graphics/imagick6/ regards Daniel -- Daniel Bauer photographer Basel Switzerland professional photography: http://www.daniel-bauer.com special interest site: http://www.bauer-nudes.com -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Not sure imageMagick does multiple pages. If you are not against a very small bit of scripting, check out http://www.pdflib.com/products/pdflib/download-source.html Then you can script this with Perl, Python, Tcl (my favorite) and others. This free version does not support scripting from .NET, COM or RealBASIC. But all other access is available. -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems AB Ramböll Sverige AB Kapellgränd 7 P.O. You can convert the jpg to ps or pdf using Gimp, for instance, or Imagemagick. You can join several pdf files into one using, for instance, pdftk: pdftk in1.pdf in2.pdf cat output out1.pdf or (using handles): pdftk A=in1.pdf B=in2.pdf cat A B output out1.pdf or (using wildcards): pdftk *.pdf cat output combined.pdf Or even using gs directly (it uses a lot of memory): gs -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=pswrite -sOutputFile=out.ps \ file1.ps file2.ps ... -c quit There is also psmerge, and joinpdf (the later I haven't tried). But I find pdftk much better. However, the quality and size obtained by using the jpg files directly is better than with pdf. An alternative I prefer is to use the DjVu format: perfectly suited to scanned material (high compression of scanned text without artifacts, for instance), and better quality and size ratio than jpg, with multipages files as well. Unfortunately, converting to djvu is not simple (as in click-click), but if you are interested, I'll post my method. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFEjslytTMYHG2NR9URAjYuAJ40Ze2ijS7GLJZYtsRLcSwdbpHMdACfVyGx p4aicI5IdtnHDIEbKS6ENg8= =F9vq -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
