Just unzip and tar it into the directory where you want it to live. It is self-contained and creates everything it needs. Hal Schlicht wrote:

mv it to the place you want it. Then type tar zxpvf filename.gz [use the name of the netscape file-)] It will create a dir called package cd into that and run the netscape that is in the dir. I'll second that opinion, Derek! At work I downloaded the 256Kb starter exe. When it fired it downloaded the other 9 parts needed to install everything exect mail and news options. (We use Lotus Notes at work). It crashe on me only once, while I was installing RealPlayer 7. But when I fired it again RealPlayer 7 worked great, as does Netscape 6. Net2Phone works nice, too! So does AOL Messenger, or what ever they call it. It looks and behaves exactly like M14 for Linux that I downloaded a week ago from the Mozilla site. I think my browser search is over. What I don't like about the beta's mail module is that it does not have the ability to read my mailbox. I collect my mail via fetchmail and unless I install a pop3 or IMAP server, I have no access to this mail. But then it is just a beta, so I cannot complain much. I did find Mozilla (aka Netscape 6) to be a bit on the slow side compared to netscape 4.7 but then again, it is probably all the debugging code. Avi Jerry L Kreps wrote:

Well, for an eye opener, run top when Netscape6 is up, sort by memory used
and, lo and behold, you'll see 4 instances with a resident size of approx.
25 MB each. My comment was "Ouch"! Now combine that with the unusable font

Is there a 6.3 RPM for libjpeg.so.62? I seem to remember having installed an RPM that added this, and then linked my libjpeg.so.6 to the new libjpeg, or something like that. I looked over the mailing list and saw some fixes for this. I'll try one if I can't find an RPM. I would much rather use the actuall RPM. When I start patching things it gets a bit confusing. Yeah, yeah! I know, it'll be in 6.4. Well if you folks would pick up the phone over at SuSE, I would reactivate my subscription, but I want to play with the new Mozilla NOW! This is unneccesary if the build occurs correctly at MozHQ. Over the weekend I worked through the issue with one of the Mozilla developers. The problem was in how mozilla was built. The Mozilla development team has been including a copy of a jpg library with the nightly build that stays in the package directory. The library was built with the idea of using the shared library libjpg in /usr/lib. Unfortunately, SuSE's version of the system library sucks. Once we identified the problem they changed the way the included library was built and the problem is now corrected in the nightly builds. Uncertain about Netscape 6 pre-1 though. If the solution has not been included there, it will be. Nevertheless, the problem has been corrected in the nightly builds for mozilla, so you should never need to download and recompile the libjpeg again.... Ah, glad you asked. I did a little checking and found that I had sym linked libjpeg.so.62 to libjpeg.so.6.2 which in turn was sym linked to libjpeg.so.6.0.1 (which comes with SuSE 6.3 in the libjpeg package) all installed in /usr/lib/. Sheesh, I think I did this last link when I was trying to trick Mozilla 14 into working. I wonder if anyone else used this approach. Anyway, I never did get M14 to work but Netscape 6 does seem to work. This probably isn't the best approach since I'm actually using libjpeg.so.6.0.1 instead of libjpeg.so.62 like Netscape asks for, but it might work for you as well. Hi, I found it at:- ftp://ftp.uu.net/graphics/jpeg/jpegsrc.v6b.tar.gz. I found that to compile it you have to use:- ./configure --enable-shared --enable-static make make test If that doesn't complain, do make instal-lib By default it will install libraries in /usr/local/lib Then link to libjpeg.so.62.0.0 ln -s /usr/local/lib/libjpeg.so.62.0.0 /opt/netscape/components/libjpeg.so Regards, Graham Smith _________________________________________________________ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
