Hi List; I want to be able to print to a pdf file. If I go to Kmenu --> Utilities --> Printing --> Printing Manager then I see "print to file (PDF)" listed but this printer does not show up in any application as a printer selection. Can someone tell me how to setup this pseudo printer so my applications see it... Thanks /Kevin

As it is not a cups provided printer, many applications will not see it. I think you have got to tell applications to print using kprinter, and once there, switch to the pdf pseudo printer. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFERWdStTMYHG2NR9URAmEYAJ9kwIeS+5dz2Hkx75XeAzdcfO2O+QCfY75S jx38dsvmvaVnnaBnWs61xY0= =feGO -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

I always just print to a PS file, then double click on it and it converts. (I also make sure I install a few apps so I can chose what one I want to do the deed.) You can also have a hot folder. Any PS file that goes in it gets converted. Just make sure you give your self a minute or so. If it starts making the PDF before the PS file is done it turns to garbage. This is another step, but it _always_ works. Better than Distiller on the other XP or OSX. (and cheaper) -- Thanks, George ``Badges? We ain't got no badges! We don't need no badges! or install && configure cups-pdf. I've found this two reference on google and they seems valid to me: - http://www.physik.uni-wuerzburg.de/~vrbehr/cups-pdf/ - http://ubuntu.wordpress.com/2006/03/23/print-to-pdf-using-cups-pdf/ ciao ! -- nicola .:kOoLiNuS:. losito http://koolinus.wordpress.com http://www.koolinus.net "If privacy is outlawed, only outlaws will have privacy." Dip them in egg, coat with flour and then deep fry them. :-) -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998

You can just do it manually. Here is the script I copied from mdk and
migrated it to my suse box:
The basic process is:
(1) to copy the print-pdf script (included below) to the SuSE box. That is
the:
[david@bonza scripts]$ ll /usr/share/samba/scripts/
total 12
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 3555 Apr 4 09:03 print-pdf*
(note file permissions)
The actual script is:
******************************
#!/bin/bash
# samba-print-pdf
# This is a script which allows you to set up a virtual printer on samba
# which will take the file (generated by a postscript filter on windows)
# and turn it into a PDF, informing the user of where it is when it
# is done
