Dear Listas... I don't know if this is of-topic or not. If so sorry... I bought a laptop, I now want to move over all my kmail stuff to the laptop. I've attempted to copy the "/home/jerry/Mail" directory to the laptop but kmail then fails to start. Anybody know how to do this? Jerry

Is the UID/GID of the copied folder right? Does starting KMail from prompt give you any clues as to what fails? Does KMail start at all? I've migrated kmail several times, the most recent for a friend when I migrated her kmail accounts, mail and config files from Fedora Core 1 to Suse pro 9.1. I only copied /home/user/Mail and kmailrc and it works fine. I think perhaps in your case the kmailrc is the critical file. Perhaps changing the user ID's from the old folders and files to the ID's in the new system and the ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/ may be important. Gus Degreef.

Try the following:
Copy your mbox files to a directory on your laptop.
Then in Kmail
Tools | Import Messages I Import mbox files | and give the directory location.
I used something like that before.

Thanks for your support Rikard.... as to your questions...
Is the UID/GID of the copied folder right? Yes, I copied it using scp. But will check again next attempt. It seems you also think this should have worked, that is encouraging...
Does starting KMail from prompt give you any clues as to what fails? Will test later, good Idea...
Does KMail start at all? (if you don't copy the old mail) Yes, It does...
I'll Report more later... For now Back to work! Jerry
