shell command to mount a cdrom or dvd?

Hi, I just installed suse 10.1 on my pc. The install went smoothly. I'd like to mount a dvd using a simple shell command. On my FreeBSD box it's easy to figure out since the installation put an entry for the dvd into /etc/fstab. I'm not sure what the device would be for Suse. thanks, -Dan

Well it might be as simple as /dev/dvd or it might be something like /dev/hdd or it might be /dev/cdrecorder. Or it might be /dev/cdrom. You can either dig thru the boot messages or do some eject /dev/XXXX till the right unit responds. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

yep
/dev/cdrom
I see:
suse:/ # mount /dev/cdrom /mnt
mount: block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected, mounting read-only
suse:/ #
suse:/ #
suse:/ # ls /mnt

Hey,
good idea!
I did this:
suse:/ # mount
/dev/sda6 on / type reiserfs (rw,acl,user_xattr)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw)
debugfs on /sys/kernel/debug type debugfs (rw)
udev on /dev type tmpfs (rw)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,mode=0620,gid=5)
/dev/sda7 on /home type reiserfs (rw,acl,user_xattr)
/dev/sda1 on /windows/C type vfat
(rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,gid=100,umask=0002,utf8=true)
/dev/sda2 on /windows/D type ntfs
(ro,noexec,nosuid,nodev,gid=100,umask=0002,nls=utf8)
securityfs on /sys/kernel/security type securityfs (rw)
/dev/hdc on /mnt type iso9660 (ro)
there's my dvd on the bottom.
I un mounted it.
mkdir /dvd
Then added this to fstab:
/dev/hdc /dvd iso9660 ro
And now...
mount /dvd
works.
kewl
Thanks!

Now if you just put that in fstab like you are familiar with it will be easier to automate.

If you set it like this then a regular user can mount it without having to be root: /dev/hdc /dvd auto noauto, user 0 0 -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

If its not mounted automatically, use "halmount". /Lennart söndag 17 september 2006 11:23 skrev Dan Bikle:

Where did that one come from? Its not on my 10.1 system. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

It's in the "ivman" package. I don't use the daemon, only the "halmount" utility. /Lennart måndag 18 september 2006 10:36 skrev John Andersen:
