Why does Kpilot open Kmail at HotSync
I am using Kpilot to sync my palm (Suse 9.1). Everytime I perform a hotsync, KMail opens. I am not using Kmail to read my e-mail. Is there a way to stop Kmail from poping up? Hi! I am using KInternet do dial-up over an analogous 56k modem (Suse 9.1). Is there a way to keep record of my total on-line time? I want to avoid getting another surprise when my next phone bill arrives. Have you looked at the /var/log/message file? You should find in that file a message whenever the dial-up line disconnects such as: pppd[xxxx] Connect time 366.3 minutes. Should be fairly easy to write a script to extract and add up the minutes. Someone else may have an easier solution. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. Edit or create script ¡/etc/ppp/ip-down.local'. Parameter '$CONNECT_TIME' has the connection duration in seconds of the session that has just finished, so you can use the value for whatever you need, like writing it to a file of your choice. More info: man pppd. Second idea: gkrellm network applet keeps track of monthly connection stats. Not so accurate as first idea, that is exact, and not dependent on how you fire up the connection nor by whom. P.S.: Next time, don't hijack a thread. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

I personally do not use kinternet, as I found I could not get it to work with my dialup modem, but I do know that kppp does provide what you are looking for in the form of a log as I use it each month to see my online time. No matter what you use to connect your modem, in the end it runs pppd, and pppd calls /etc/ppp/ip-up, down, etc, if they exist. This is documented. One of the parameters passed to the script ip-down is the connection duration. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
