This happens on 11.4 and I haven't noticed it on anything newer. And it seems like it's a new problem for me because I've been running 11.4 on this box since it came out and never remember having this issue. The only thing new on this box is the use and configuration of a wireless usb adapter. This /etc/hosts entry is an IP address directly connecting me to a machine NOT on my local network or even in my area. So it's more or less a foreign entry. But why is Yast removing it? Seems just WRONG to me. It should never remove entries I've manually put in there. Why is it removing it?

Don't know.
But I learned long ago from doing upgrades by "new install" to do cp -r -p /etc /local
This creates a copy of all config files in /local/etc
This happens every time I configure the wireless network in YAST. Would you do that every time you had to do that? Mark -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You cannot mix YaST settings with your own settings. Just use YaST for everything or forget to use YaST. You can add your hosts settings with the YaST module: /sbin/yast2 host -- Matthias -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Well, using yast2-samba module, it does not happen, I can mix my owns setting with the yast settings 10mo. ANIVERSARIO DE LA CREACION DE LA UNIVERSIDAD DE LAS CIENCIAS INFORMATICAS... No offense intended, but that's horse hockey. I have many of "my own entries" in my host file. Always have. There is only this one that Yast seems to want to remove. It is the only "real world" IP address in there and it's been in there forever. It's just recently that I'm going wireless in my house and now Yast is removing it. Why? It's Yast. I don't use network manager. Mark -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Huh? What could make Yast believe that? Mark -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I don't know - maybe check to see if your address is listed somewhere in /etc/sysconfig ? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (7.6°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
