[opensuse] How do I fix this?
a zypper up of an 11.4 system rendered my system unbootable; the root filesystem (/dev/rd/c0d0p2 DAC960 controller) didn't appear after the update. So I decided this was a good time to bring the system all the way up to 12.2 and maybe that would bring thing up... No dice still, so I tested with a system rescue, the actual filesystem IS intact. It just appears the udev isn't doing the right thing in the initrd. How do I fix the initrd? No help for the current problem: /etc/zypp/zypp.conf has an option "MultiVersion". Set it, and use it properly (preventing overwriting a working one at updates time), and if a new kernel/initrd won't work, you can boot the old one to find a fix. MultiVersion itself only keeps the kernel and initrd, but won't prevent the overwrite on update. 'chattr +i' is one way to prevent. I just make a copy with a minor name change. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg. no clue about how to help, but I was looking around (for ftp listing of the files in the rescue directory) and stumbled on this. http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Linuxrc this: " The use of linuxrc is not limited to the installation. You can also use it as a boot tool for an installed system and even for an independent RAM disk–based rescue system. " in particular caught my eye. -e On Tue, 2012-11-13 at 19:11 -0800, Bruce Ferrell wrote:
