Trying to install 8.2 I have been struggling for half a day. Of course safe setting, first trying to update my 8.1 and as that was not functioning a new install. Everytime it stalls at the time when the propositions are made for the software choices. It does not show anything even after a long wait. Trying to update via Yast in the 8.1 install does show the old software and the new software but proposes no new packages to update. So now I am suspecting a small defect on the first cd. Is there a method to check this, e.g checksum or so?

Are you doing this on a CDROM or DVD/CDRW combo drive? I think there is a bug in the install process if you try with a combo drive and use the DVD. It will give the above. If that is the case in your situation, use the CDs and change the source AFTER install to the DVD, which will work fine after the install. My setup is a cdrw only. 52x24x52 as slave but I also tried it out with a 2x cdrom without succes also. Have not tried it as masteras that seems to make no big difference I asume. On Saturday 31 May 2003 22:27, Joe Morris (NTM) wrote:

Try passing (since you mentioned it is the slave) hdd=ide-scsi at the install boot prompt. I suspected the DVD/CDRW combo problem was because
