Need terminal similar to Windoze hyperterm
Greetings. I need to be able to use Com1 on my laptop with a Cisco console cable like to connect to a router's console port and do things. In Windows, I used hyperterminal - what is my equivalent in SuSe v9.0?? Thanks, Jeff

It's not GUI, but minicom will do. Maybe others ? -- Met vriendelijke groeten, Koenraad Lelong R&D Manager ACE electronics n.v.
You need a vt100 Emulation... I don't know of one, but at least now you know what you are looking for... Just a minute... Checking YAST! I'd try eterm and/or minicom By the description both seam to be what you are looking for... Jerry On Wed, 2004-07-07 at 14:35, Jeff Bankston wrote:

You did take notice that *he* said 'real men', but did not indicate that he was or was not included in the reference. It was meant as a joke ... cu is a raw 'call up' or 'copy unix' as it was originally named. Since the terminal, you are calling from already has terminal emulation ... it's all you really need.

"gtkterm", it's an attempt to provide a hyperterminal clone. I've used it for quite a while to provide a serial terminal access to Sun servers and also booting Linux with option "console=ttyS0" in order to view and capture console output on my laptop, excellent for capturing kernel oopses to send to ther kernel mailing list. http://www.jls-info.com/julien/linux/gtkterm-0.99.4.tar.gz http://freshmeat.net/redir/gtkterm/36191/url_tgz/gtkterm-0.99.4.tar.gz, easy to build and install from the sources. For instance ckermit but I haven't used it for years.

The name suggests that ckermit may not be the right tool for you ;-) -- A.M.
