All, Before I forget, let me pass on a handy one-liner to list the truetype fonts installed on your system. You will need the 'fontconfig' package installed. (sudo zypper in fontconfig). fontconfig provides the `fc-list` utility, among others, that will list all fonts currently available on your system. Example of using `fc-list`: $ fc-list /usr/share/fonts/75dpi/UTB___18-ISO8859-1.pcf.gz: Adobe Utopia:style=Bold /usr/share/fonts/100dpi/helvB12.pcf.gz: Adobe Helvetica:style=Bold /usr/share/fonts/truetype/SyrCOMMardin.otf: Serto Mardin:style=Regular /usr/share/fonts/texlive-cm-super/sfvt1200.pfb: Computer Modern:style=Variable Width Typewriter /usr/share/fonts/ghostscript/n019003l.pfb: Nimbus Sans L:style=Regular /usr/share/fonts/texlive-lm/lmsansdemicond10-oblique.otf: Latin Modern Sans Demi Cond,LM Sans Demi Cond 10:style=10 Oblique,Italic That provides quite a bit of information, ... more than what I wanted. I simply wanted to see the font-name associated with the truetype fontfile. So making use of your friends grep, sed, and sort you can limit the information to the desired output: $ fc-list | grep true | sed -e 's|^.*/||' -e 's/:style=\(\<.*\>\).*$/ - \1/' -e 's/,.*$//' | sort or with line continuations: $ fc-list | \ grep true | \ sed -e 's|^.*/||' -e 's/:style=\(\<.*\>\).*$/ - \1/' -e 's/,.*$//' | \ sort The output: andalemo.ttf: Andale Mono - Regular arialbd.ttf: Arial - Bold arialbi.ttf: Arial - Bold Italic ariali.ttf: Arial - Italic arialnbi.ttf: Arial arialnb.ttf: Arial arialni.ttf: Arial arialn.ttf: Arial arial.ttf: Arial - Regular <snip> That is much more useful to me. Give it a try, I've added this one to my toolbox. I also recall another command that allowed you to query individual font files and return the fontname, but I cannot seem to find reference to it. It was something like: $ someutil /path/to/fonts/truetype/ttfname.ttf fontname If anyone know of another utility that will read individual files and dump just the fontname, I'd appreciate you reminding me what it is :) -- David C.
