I don't know if they are inept; all other mail providers do dumb things in one way or another.
"dumb things" does not mean "not following standards". If Telefonica has implemented IMAP with dovecot the way I have, they are fine and you will not have a problem.
Maybe it is the web frontend which did the corruptions. They may have software doing things directly to the database.
I know this particular telefonica account has a problem (for years) that they told me they can not solve. There is a subcontractor involved. They do not permit new accounts, they tell people to use gmail instead.
The account is "robin.listas2", which has an alias "robin.listas", for reasons I don't remember, long ago. When I'm connected to it, suddenly the entire folder will appear empty (no matter the client). It will remain empty till a new email appears, and then the folder repopulates, and the client has to reload it again, whole (I did not check other folders).
For example, sometimes this happens, and I managed to take a "screenshot": N 441 20-12-03 09:49 Neal Gompa project@list (7652) openSUSE Board Elections 2020 Platform N 442 20-12-03 09:17 David Mulder ngompa@opens (14K) Re: openSUSE Board Elections 2020 Platform 443 20-12-06 21:16 Per Jessen opensuse-pro (8172) Re: Discord implies discord N 444 20-12-06 20:58 Per Jessen opensuse@ope (6506) Re: [opensuse] Re: how to copy imap folders and subfolders with thunderbird N 445 20-12-06 14:58 James Knott users@lists. Maybe the headers do appear, but size is zero and attempting to read it produces an empty email, then the entire line disapears. I have not observed the issue on other accounts of the same provider, but of course, this account gets many emails. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
