One final question...I hope I can return the favor in some way for all your help.
My /boot partition resides above cylinder 1024. I want change my /boot partition from /dev/hde20 to /dev/hde8. I copied the contents of /dev/hde20 to /dev/hde8 (after mounting /dev/hde8 as /mnt/temp). I then setup my boot manager to boot from partition /dev/hde8. I then rebooted the PC and chose to boot from this new entry in my boot manager, but the computer did nothing. I am trying to eliminate the need for a SuSE disk to boot SuSE Linux.
I think I need to somehow install LILO to the first sector of partition /dev/hde8 after copying the files from hde20 to hde8. Is this correct? How do I do this?
Is it really "hd_e_"? This would mean, it your fifth disk (master on the third IDE channel). Can your BIOS boot off this disk? I would assume, you need to install LILO on your primary disk (hda) to be able to boot. In addition to that, the kernel image has to reside below the dreaded 1024 cylinder boundary.
BTW - That solution, that you suggested in your last E-mail about using /mnt instead of /, worked wonderfully. I was able to install SuSE Linux 6.3 successfully!
I am glad to hear that :) Congratulations.
If successful, we will prove that a person can use YAST2 and still install to non-adjacent partitions. I have high hopes!
Good luck!
