Hi Fergus, I've been using a Western Digital drive and so far no real problems. One thing to note is now USB 2.0 is comparable to IEE1394 in speed and performance plus it is much easier to setup and use. I know there will be a new firwire version to come out as well, but my point is firewire is no longer much faster than USB. Have I overlooked anything people? Hi All,
Inspired by the prospect of being able to carry my (15 GB and growing) data off with me I'm considering a firewire external hardrive, and people on the list seem to be getting them to work more or less easily (reading Babu Walad and Art Fore's messages, at least).
I am looking at Amacom EZ disk, LaCie's external drive, and Iomega's new hdd portables.
There's a fair variation in price per gigabyte, with LaCie a deal cheaper - anyone got any positive / horror stories about using any of these with SuSE, or anyone got a better way for me to carry off large chunks of data?
I'd back it all up to DDS3 or 4, but between the scsi card and the tape drive that seems to be getting probibitively expensive for a leisure system,
Any advice gratefully received, Best Fergus
