After last week's security bulletin, I downloaded kernel k_deflt-2.4.21-215 OK but failed to download kernel-source after two tries. (I have a very slow and unrelaiable dial up connection.)
*** You might want to try another mirror *** I also have a slow dial up to I use an ftp client which allows the download to be interrupted, rather than using YOU. I also download the kernel-source readme, so I know how to install it. I do "rpm -v --checksig kernel-source-*.rpm" to verify that I got it all of it before I install it.
Question: Can I go ahead and install k_deflt withour the kernel-source?
*** Yes, given your answer below ***
(There were several other much smaller downloads which did not install: mc, ethereal, etc. I assume I shoul manually install them as well.?)
** Either that or use fou4s or try you again without trying to install kernel-source.
Dear Lucky,
Did you get that Kernel from Mantel's site at SUSE? Without the sources you may have trouble setting up the NVIDIA drivers fron NVIDIA; they require the sources.
They were from the YoU FTP site at suse.de. I don't use NVIDIA so that part should not be a problem, should it?
No, not that I am aware of.. so have fun installing k_deflt.
