In Kaffeine: The error box says: "Can't bind info socket". Dismissing it starts the first screen of the film (before the introductory credits)m with sound that repeats every second or so ad infinitum.
What might be causing this to happen, and how to fix it?
Stan,
Just tried here on 11.1 and both Kaffeine and MPlayer are playing DVD.
~/system/media/sr0 looks strange. On my system MPlayer and Kaffeine use /dev/dvd.
In MPlayer you can check the definitions by R-Click -> Preferences -> Misc Tab and there DVD device.
In Kaffeine I haveunder settings -> xine engine parameters -> media there is also dvd.device.

Sorry that your response escaped my notice until now. Your suggestion did solve the problem of MPlayer, which had been set to the wrong device, and MPlayer now works. Thanks.
Kaffeine, which still does not work, was already set to /dev/dvd, so it has a different problem. The kaffeine settings also have a setting for region, which had been set for Region 1, which is incorrect (this is Region 2, and so are all my DVDs. I thought this might be the solution to the Kaffeine problem, but changing it to 2 didn't help. In any case, one operatie DVD player is as much as I can use.
What, exactly, is the "info socket" that kaffeine complains it can't bind to?
I never used Kaffeine actively. But from google search it looks like this "info socket" issue might be related to DVB playing - if you have a number of machines on the local network and one of them has DVB receiver, Kaffeine may receive the video stream from that machine. I've seen somebody got rid of this message by disabling DVB client (settings - configure kaffeine).
