My guess is that you have separate partitions, and /var is on one of those partitions. If so, you've probably fallen foul of bug #330705, to which a workaround is available here:

Thanks Dave; I already used your information about the work around, that is how I got to the mount options box. I can not get past that to mount the various partitions.
