I sometimes upgrade various components from sources when I need a more
recent version than included in the SuSE RPMs.
With Jpilot, I removed the jpilot RPMs and built from source. With
GNUPG, I just upgraded from source without deleting the RPM version.
My preference would be to use the SuSE RPMs when the version is
available.
For instance, I upgraded GNU PG to version 1.2.1 because the SuSE
version (1.0.7 I believe) did not have some of the features in 1.2.1.
However, I did not delete the SuSE RPM.
Another way to do this is top build an RPM so I can keep the RMP
database up to date.
