Hi All, Many thanks to All but mainly Bruce for all his help and sugestions Fixed... (I found the solution) Solution... SuSE 7.2 needs or seem to need a dos partition to load lilo onto. My method was... Remove the swap partition, Create a small partition of 10M as DOS Create swap partition of the remainder. Boot via DOS floppy and format the C: drive loading system files (DOS) format c: /s Reboot And Lilo fires up without the boot floppy disk. Kernel is loaded inc modules. Also I entered this in the lilo.conf file install = /boot/boot.b and a bios = 0x80 setting too. So what went wrong on installation ? Regards Matt Matt wrote:
Hi,
Just to mention that I have worked it out.... but a problem still remains.
Bootup from a single disk... (removing CD's etc)
Place disk in floppy Boot up.... Kernel boots off
In hardware detection....
Wait until the display asks for a Modules Disk - Press Cancel Wait for the display to ask for a CD 1 Disk - Press Cancel.
PC then goes into installation mode - Press Back until the old yast menu appears, then go to 'boot installed system'
Type in /dev/hda7 - Press Return.
And away it goes and modules are loaded from hda7 partition... and it finnishes booting up.
Well now how can I get it booting without asking for the modules diskette or the CD 1 ?
Idealy I would like to boot up from the MRB but that seems a no go. in 7.1 it was ok and 7.0, 6.4 etc..

Matt

Problems on reboot
SuSE still wants the floppy in drive A.
i expect that it installed (or tried to) lilo on a floppy during installation. boot with the cd/dvd (boot installed system) and run lilo at the command prompt, or in yast...that should get lilo on the mbr for you.
/dev/hda x = /boot
Its looking for a modules floppy It still asks for disk 1 to be inserted in the CD drive.
Now all I get is the install screen again and again...
i assume from the sounds of this that you tried to boot up with the cd/dvd still in the drive? that's the impression i'm getting anyway...this is no big deal, just go through the initial couple of steps (keyboard, clock, etc.) and then choose 'boot installed system' when you get a chance, and enter the number of your / partition. that will get you a booted system.
Hmm out of interest how do I create a MBR ?
How do I boot via my MRB without the need of a floppy ?
Regards
Matt (I have used versions 5, 6.x's and 7.x's too with no problems).
