Hey, just saw this on Slashdot. http://linux.slashdot.org/linux/06/04/17/1350239.shtml Is good or bad, I am not sure how Oralce is on Open Source.
IMHO it would be terrible news.
Oracle is not really a business that understands OpenSource (but so
wasn't Novell).
Though, my biggest gripe with it would be:
- - Oracle is way too large as a business, the Linux distribution would be
a very minor spot in it
- - the reputation of Oracle in the Linux and FOSS world.. c'mon... it's
already not always easy with Novell... but do you see yourself at an OSS
event to promote "Oracle Linux" ?
Anyway, there's not much influence we can take on such topics ;-)
So we'll just have to see what happens and either move on elsewhere or
live with it. Who knows, maybe it would be a positive move for us, as
SUSE Linux users and as a community around it (I doubt it, but it's
quite likely that I'm wrong).
And it's just rumors, rumors, rumors. Slashdot isn't a reliable source
by any means, but well... it's not that it's unlikely, Oracle has been
on the shopping spree for some time now and they're not going to stop
any time soon.
Wait and see, but don't hold your breath for it ;)
cheers
