Is there any easy way to resize a ReiserFS partition without reformatting? I'm trying to get Win4Lin running, and since it needs ext2 fs for it's data, I need to shrink my Reiser partition. Any ideas?
Yes, ReiserFS can be shrinked offline (unmounted). See the documentation here:
http://devlinux.com/projects/reiserfs/rsz.html
BTW: Growing a ReiserFS file system is supposed to work in online mode, too!
Also, isn't there a way to create a filesystem inside a normal file?
Yes, via the loopback device:
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/Loopback-Root-FS.html
Could I perhaps do this instead (on top of my Reiser partition)?
Should be possible, check the above HOWTO for more info.
