Am I right? I thought that anti-aliasing was supposed to work with Type 1 fonts as well as TrueType fonts. I've had a problem ever since KDE and X together supported the RENDER extension and anti-aliased fonts: I can get it all to work fine, except that when anti-aliasing is enabled, only TrueType fonts are selectable. If anti-aliasing is not enabled, I can also get the Type 1 fonts. Now, my understanding is that anti-aliasing and Xft et al works fine with Type 1 as well as TrueType, and I just can't find anything wrong with my configuration, having checked all the relevant how-tos etc. that I could find, both on the SuSE support database and through Google. My configuration is as follows (excerpts:) This is all on SuSE 7.2, though I also had the problem on 7.1. This has been with all versions since the first when anti-aliasing became possible at all, right up to currently XFree 4.1.0 and KDE 2.2.1/QT 2.3.1. /etc/X11/XF86Config Section "Files" FontPath "unix/:7100" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/URW" <snip> Section "Module" Load "type1" Load "speedo" Load "extmod" Load "freetype" Load "glx" Load "dri" Load "xft" EndSection <snip> /etc/X11/XftConfig: # $XFree86: xc/lib/Xft/XftConfig.cpp,v 1.6 2001/04/27 14:55:22 tsi Exp $ dir "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1" dir "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype" dir "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi" # # alias 'fixed' for 'mono' # match any family == "fixed" edit family =+ "mono"; # # Check users config file # includeif "~/.xftconfig" <snip> ~/.xftconfig: match edit rgba = rgb; /etc/X11/fs/config: # no-listen = tcp port = 7100 client-limit = 10 clone-self = on use-syslog = on deferglyphs = 16 catalogue = /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled, /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled, /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled, /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/japanese:unscaled, /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/baekmuk:unscaled, /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1, /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/URW, /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo, /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID, <snip> -- Rachel
