One point though, which is that when I entered YaST to alter my installation sources, it hung for several minutes, trying to refresh from the mirrors which I knew by now to be down - that was why I'd entered YaST - to replace them with ones which work! Is it really necessary to refresh all the repositories when one starts the tool to manage them?
No, it's not necessary. And that's why, as I recall, whenever you add a new source it is automatically Enabled but Refresh is set to Off. ;-)
