I have a problem with HPLIP.
I tried to install hplip-3.9.8.run and source hplip-3.9.8.tar.gz from the http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html website. It installed after a dependency libgphoto2-devel was installed. I also tried using the YaST installation of the package. After the installation, "sudo hp-setup" did not work.
Could someone tell me where the HPLIP.ppd is please. After installing the HPLIP package, my HP LaserJet 5 (with JetDirect) printer does not work any more.
The Device URI Model "hp:/usb/Deskjet_F4100_series?serial=-- HP Deskjet F4100 series" works well with the previous PPD. I did not change anything or install it with HPLIP.
I need a working PPD for the HP LaserJet 5. The existing ones do not work any more since a recent openSUSE update. I cannot say what changed, but the PPD's for this printer does not work any more. It has worked for years with previous openSUSE and SuSE Linux distros.
Based on my experience, I'd use Yast to UNinstall the printer, then restart the system and use HPLIP to install the printer.

Hi Fred, thanx for the tip. I tried it all as well, but the darn HPLIP installation from source all worked; then refused with: hp-setup error: HPMUDEXT could not be loaded. Please check HPLIP installation. But I just did configure, make clan, make and make install! I de-installed all HP stuff and the printers, and rebooted (Windows style he-he). Thereafter I used "system-config-printer 1.0.8" to install the printers. Now all is fine again without HPLIP and the standard PPD files for "HP LaserJet 5M Postscript (recommended)" JetDirect & "HP Deskjet F4100 series" USB. I never liked HP software, even in my windoze days, especially since the first all-in-one devices came out. The Linux all-in-one software seems to be much better lately. Just do not allow HP software on the system. It cost me a few hours, then I managed to wipe it all and use only what comes with openSUSE. :-) Al -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
