Hello all,
I would like to know if there is a clear indication as to which of the file systems are best suited to large LVM volumes. I have an LVM of 926GB over 5 hard drives. Is there a "best file system" for such a large volume? I have been using Reiser for all my file systems thus far, but have heard that xfs is a good choice if many small files are involved. I have searched google with this query:
"best file system" for "very large" LVM
But have not found a clear indication of a preferred file system.
It's a VERY subjective opinion, but I've used both Reiser and ext3 on a 2.2 Tb LVM (9 drives) under Suse 9.1 and 9.2. I prefer ext3. Keep in mind that my average file size is NOT small and Reiser is really supposed to sparkle on small files. That notwithstanding, boot and crash recovery are MUCH faster on ext3 and I really didn't notice a speed difference on normal access.
