And this remains so for a while or is it just something temporary? With menus being slow, that isn't necessarily the application, but could be the overall windowing/GUI system. You don't see the same issue elsewhere, in firefox, in libreoffice, in gimp ?

Yes, I was suspecting an issue in the GUI, not in the app. When Carlos said "Click on a menu or option and I have to wait for it to get highlighted", I think that is not for TB to do, that is for the windowing system. Mind you, I have not done any such GUI programming for almost 30 years.
No, I have not observed it, or at least not significant. Sometimes the menu may have to be loaded from disk, being the first time it is used.
