I've had this issue on only two installs so far...
I run YAST, it asks for the Administrator password, I enter the root password, then when I go to software install, I cannot type in the window that contains the "search" field. I just noticed that keyboard input is actually going to the left frame...
Anyone have any ideas?

Run the Yast Online Update. It fixed that problem for me. (Yast --> >Software --> Online Update).

I am still running SuSE 8.2 (with KDE 3.1.1) However, so I understand your problem: You have swithed the "filter" to search, and are typing in the "search box" which is below the "filter" box, What I am saying is: You aren't trying to type in the "filter" box, are you ??? Because that will not work !!! Given you are not, why don't you try running "yast2" from the command line in a tty terminal. That is: open up a virtual terminal: By doing: "Ctrl+Alt+F2 Then log in as root, Then do: "yast2" (without the quotes) YaST2 will give you a screen which you can navigate using your arrow keys and tab. And you can get to a screen where you can "search" Often when I can't get the YOU gui to work for me (esspecially during or after a new installs) I use the old tried and true ncurses version.
