As a HD, it will need to be partitioned and formatted. You could use Yast Partitioning Tool, but I would first delete your addition to fstab.
I commented out the fstab entry and fired up YAST, however the partitioning tool does not see /dev/sda. Also, attempting to take a look at it using fdisk -l /dev/sda does not produce anything. I am wondering if, even though the device is apparently recognized by SuSE, there is something else wrong.
