I thought the xvpics directories were created by GIMP. Every time you navigate in GIMP, to either 'Open' or 'Save' an image; it builds previews of the images already contained therein.
Right?
The original program that creates and uses .xvpics is XV. However, several other programs can create and/or use it. Gimp is an example of a program that create thumbnails in .xvpics. GQview an example of a program that can use it, if you enable it in its preferences. Charles -- "...and scantily clad females, of course. Who cares if it's below zero outside" (By Linus Torvalds)
