I want to purchase a flatbed scanner to use with SuSE 7.1. Can you use the serial port with the scanner? Has anyone installed a particular model successfully?
I have not heard of scanners that use the serial port. I can enthusiastically recommend the Epson 1200U, a USB scanner that works well with SuSE and SANE, and gives great scans. This scanner is easy to get working in SuSE. As a general rule, Epsons are known for being easy to set up in Linux. You should still check the SANE page to make sure you have a model that is known to work. It was very easy for me with SuSE 7.2. I noticed there are some minor issues to be aware of in 7.1, discussed here: http://www.freecolormanagement.com/sane/suse71.html Some other useful documents: http://www.mostang.com/sane/ http://www.freecolormanagement.com/sane/index.html (Epson backend info) http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/tami_usbscanner.html *************************************************** Powered by SuSE Linux 7.2 Professional KDE 2.1.2 KMail 1.2 Bryan S.
