Wasn't that the other way around? PHP coders who were doing proprietary/closed stuff resented the MySQL license change to GPL, which meant their stuff had to be GPL too if it linked directly to it.
Hm, that does ring a bell. Postfix is released under something called the "IBM Public License". Perhaps the issue then is that it isn't compatible with the GPL
