I have 7.3 Prof on my machine with MS 98 on a single shared hard disk

Are MS utilities (disk re-fragmneter , virus checker etc ) likley to foul
up the SuSE partition/data?
Many thanks.

I am new to Linux but DO NOT USE THESE TOOLS on a linux partition. Severe corruption is very likely.
I don't think he's talking about using the M$ utilities on his linux partition. I believe he just wanted to know if using them in his M$ partition would 'leak' over to his linux partition and do any damage. Besides...M$ sees nothing but itself/other M$ OS's, and has no clue about a linux partition on the same hdd.

I have read an article about certain MS upgrades that would not work if it saw a Linux partition. Mainly 98SE i think? I never had any issues but this individual did. As far as the utilities writing to the linux partitions, you are right. But he may want to be careful about the antivirus thing though. You can set them up to just scan and repair automatically. If it overwrites the boot sector because the program thinks that it is a virus, then he may not be able to boot back into linux :( -- Marshall "Nothing is impossible, We just do not have all the anwsers to make the impossible, possible."
