AthlonMP's require registered DDR RAM (to us, in the USA, that old national
designation seems curious for a machine intended for the German market). It
may be next to impossible to install any OS if incompatible RAM is
installed, as was the case with ours as set up by the vendor. There appear
to be issues with BIOS revisions on these systems, as well, but those are
more to do with locking out control keys and mouse.

A friend is having problems installing SuSE 7.3 on a Dual Athlon MP system. The motherboard is a Tyan Tiger MP. He says that after selecting Installation, the usual text messages begin to scroll across the screen. However the system churns and burns (HD and CD activity) for an endless amount of time and never gets to the first graphical install page. He also say some bus error messages on screen.
Since he lives out of town, I haven't yet seen the system. Was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem with a similarily equipped computer.
