I upgraded to 2.4.7-4GB from 2.4.4-4GB on my box _WITH_ aic7xxx and
had _NO_ problems or hangs. It even shares irq 11 with the USB hub.

Jack,
I also had the same exact issue with the 2.4.7 kernel. suse has confirmed this and are working to resolve this for the next release.
For the work around. (as root)
1. Edit my rc.config file. Edit the line INITRD_MODULES="aic7xxx" to INITRD_MODULES="aic7xxx_old" NOTE: make sure you keep any other values in the INITRD_MODULES string
2. Run mk_initrd
That was it.

It seems that the new 2.4.7 kernel an modutils uses the newer aic7xxx drivers an when i update the kernel to 2.4.7 it kernel panics on me. For now I have reloaded the 2.4.4 kernel from the boot cd an have the box backup an running. I would like to upgrade to a newer kernel but need to know how to use the old aic7xxx.old.o driver for my scsi card. I have never compiled a kernel from scratch yet but if that would solve my problem I would be glad to learn. Just wondering if anyone else out there using aic7xxx based scsi cards are having similar problems. This partical card is really a a raid controller but not one that is supported under linux ( aaa133u is the model). Had novell on this machine at one point an it was working fine as a raid card there but from what I can find its not supported underlinux as raid but has worked fine just as a scsi card to use my drives I have. thanks for any info.
